In fall 2005, a developer purchased an option from the First Baptist Church to buy this six-acre parcel of land, which is located just behind the church. The developer had wanted to build dense housing units. He gave up after citizens raised concerns about the density of the housing and safety issues.
A year later, a new developer has the land under an option is proposing a similar development that, not surprisingly, raises many of the same density and safety issues. A citizens group, Save Cottonwood Park Corridor, is coordinating citizen scrutiny of the development.
