Does PreserveLouisville.org do anything else, say, promote open government?

As a matter of fact....

PreserveLouisville.org was behind the effort in 2004 to add amendments to the Louisville Home Rule Charter to improve open government in five major areas:

1. Require that the City Council refrain from taking action on public issues at study sessions, which are informal meetings that are not well attended by citizens, not televised or recorded, and for which there are no minutes.

2. Prohibit public bodies from acting on items not listed on their agendas.

3. Limit the amount of fees and costs the city may charge for open records requests.

4. Require that documents provided to the Council by speakers at Council meetings be provided to all members of the public audience.

5. Require that all public officials undergo minimal ethics and open-government training, and that the city publish brochures informing members of the public about open-government laws.

Despite the individual Council members' unanimous opposition to these amendments and the Council opposition's campaign misbehavior, with 92.4% of Louisville voters voting, more than 70% voted to approve the amendments, which are now part of the Louisville Home Rule Charter.
